For this project, I chose Forbes Ave. as the street I want to portray in 100 years.
In 2123, I imagine people will move to other planets to live, such as Mars and even underground in the rivers (there are rivers under Pittsburgh's ground surface). Humans become ambitious about exploring outer space and the possibility of living on other planets and underground, inspired by Atlantis. They will be building their homes, workplaces, schools, hospitals, and more in those places. As shown in my second piece, there are buildings underground in the rivers that people have built for themselves.
To survive in the water and outer space without underwater helmets and astronaut helmets, people have cleverly modified their lungs to adapt to any kind of environment. As seen in the second piece, there's a boy standing in the river without any helmet or oxygen tube.
On the ground surface, the avenue is now turning into an amusement park. To represent this, there is a carousel shown in the first piece. The residents are no longer humans since they have all left (if they want to come back, they can). Instead, there live the minion robots and stereotypical robots resembling Boston Dynamics' Atlas Robot. The robots build the amusement park to experience the joy of playing instead of working for humans.
My idea for minion robots originates from my love for them. When I first watched them in films, their cuteness made me wonder if they could exist in real life and no longer be fictional characters. Additionally, I wanted to include the more stereotypical robots because I have read articles and watched videos regarding the creation of Boston Dynamics' Atlas Robot.
In terms of feasibility of production and operation, the robots resembling Boston Dynamics' Atlas Robot are more feasible. Besides, both kinds of robots have feelings just like humans. In my first piece, they walk hand in hand. If they are hungry, they can eat the banana flowers, inspired by the minions' obsession with bananas.
Additionally, to travel freely through outer space and the underwater world, people have developed a special means of transportation that looks like a UFO with wheels. The UFO can release dreamlike bubbles to decorate the street, as seen in both of my pieces.
All in all, in my imagination, Forbes Ave. in 100 years is a utopian vision, but it may be difficult to achieve.
